                                                                            ********
"I am half grilled right here.", James mendengus. Kuping dan pangkal hidungnya sudah merona merah disapa terik matahari cuaca panas bumi Malaysia. Jamilah tersenyum.

"She seems not to be bothered by the heat despite of her unrevealing clothes. Doesn't she feels the intense heat?" hatinya mula melakar tanda soal di kotak fikirannya. "Excuse me, miss. The heat is killing me. But it seems that you're not affected by it. Don’t you sweat in this covering cloth?"

Maka konversasi itu pun bermula ;

"I'm used to it, sir." permulaan pertanyaan dijawabnya ringkas.

"But you  have to wear proper attire that suitable with your surroundings. I am sorry. But I don't think this kind of clothing that you are wearing is the right one for this glaring sunny day." seperti penceramah bebas pula keletah si James memberikan nasihat kepada pemandu pelancongnya itu.

"In Islam, covering the 'aurah' is compulsory for every Muslim woman. No matter in what condition and in what surroundings, sir. I am just doing my responsibility towards my religion."

"I don't understand. This isn't right. Islam teaches nonsense things to its worshippers, yet they're still devoted with it. People like you, why wasting your life preaching a religion that prohibit the freedom of choice of what to wear and what to do?", James berterus terang akan pandangannya terhadap agama bernama ‘Islam’. Hanya kerana Jamilah bertudung labuh, Islam pula yang disalahkannya. Islamophobia barangkali.

"Sir, women are treated with pride in Islam, and this is why the teachings of Islam teaches us to cover our body, mainly our 'aurah'. Women in nature are physically attractive. Women are the weakness of men. By seeing our aurah, or the parts of body that can trigger 'lust' in men, men can lost his sanity. Women are the source of nafs, or lust and fitna, or the false prosecution if they misuse the gift of ‘beauty’. Islam prohibits us to publicly display our aurah, to avoid mistreating towards women, and to let women be treated with pride."

Dahinya berkerut.

"I don't understand. It doesn't make sense at all. If women are the source of the evil that you’ve mentioned, then why your God does created you? To forever is the source of all-evil? Then it’s an omen to be born as a baby girl if one day when she’s grown up, she’ll be nothing more than just a shame. What a wasted life!”, dia tertawa kecil. Penjelasan Jamilah dirasakan lucu baginya. Kelenjar air matanya sedikit merembes dek kerana menahan ketawa.

"Sir, I do not want to be misunderstood with what I am saying. Women are created to be one sign of God blessings of men lives. To be men’s companion throughout his life. The source of inspiration for men. Eventhough women are said to be the source of nafs and fitna. But women also are mentioned in Quran to be God’s blessings and companion for men. Women are the source of nafs and fitna if the nature of being a woman is misused. Despite of giving us with ‘beauty’, we are also given with characters of shyness and being moderate so that we won’t mistreat our beauty. Allah gives us two choices either of being the God’s blessings or the source of nafs and fitna. It’s our own choice to decide what we want to be.”

“That is not too convincing. But still, for being a woman, despite of wearing revealing clothes, I don't think that non-Muslim women are mistreated. I don't think that they are not having their pride with them. With what they wear, it doesn't mean that they have NO pride! What you wear doesn’t tell the whole story of what’s your inside. What are you trying to say actually, miss?" nadanya agak tinggi dan keras. Mungkin tersalah tafsir maksud sebenar yang cuba disampaikan kepadanya.

“For easy understanding, let's use our logical thinking. I mean, imagine you as the man and myself as the woman to portray what I really mean here, sir." Jamilah memberikan cadangan.

"Alright. Please continue."

"When you first saw me, what do you feel? Attracted?" Jamilah mula bertanya.

"No. Not at all. With what you're wearing, I don't feel attracted." jawabnya ringkas.

"That's one of the purposes why I am wearing like this. To make you, men, to find a woman like me unattractive. If I am wearing anything that is revealing, I might have trigger ‘lust’. Men might mistreat me. "

“Miss. Don’t put the blame on ‘Men’ if only some of them who put disgrace on us. Not all men are bad.” James sedikit tersinggung dengan kenyataan Jamilah.

“I’m sorry sir. I don’t mean any harm. Yes. Not all men are to be blamed. But for safety measure, it is better to get ready as this sayings, “Prevention Is Better Than Cure.”. We can’t predict how other people will behave. Even the nicest man could commit any crimes. Devil won’t have a single break from keeping people astray from the true path. That is their promise to Allah.”

"But why? Women's beauty is meant to be wasted just like that? You're insane. When you got the beauty that can make people adore for you, value your beauty, you shouldn't shun that! Beauty is God's blessings. And the blessings should be adored and valued by others!”.

“That is also another reason why do I have to cover my aurah. The truth of women creation, it is not about displaying what we have and being valued by others especially by men. Displaying our beauty and let others to look at us and adoring what they see, then there will be no difference between us and an ornament. In this case, I use the metaphor of a paint drawing. A talented and recognised painter paints me. Then when he’s done with me, he puts me on display and let people to see and adore my beauty. When there is another paint drawing which is more attractive, people leave me. They go away from me. When I reach my expired date, I am thrown away. Is that all? Is that all why we as women are created? Just to be put on display and let people to adore us like a paint drawing? When they feel that we are no longer that attractive, we are left behind? Like a tool? Like man-made stuff with no feelings? The truth of God’s ultimate creations shouldn’t be as simple as what we can think of, right?”.

“You got a point there, miss. But then how would any men want to be near you and love you with your appearance? Aren’t you afraid of being alone with no men are there to be with you?”. panjang lebar sekali persoalan yang diajukan. Mungkin sifat ingin tahunya begitu menebal.

“Being moderate is the key, sir. Being moderate in what we wear is not only meant to keep any bad intention away. It is also about teaching our souls to be thankful with what we have. Being moderate and humble will avoid us to feel over proud, and starting to forget that all the gifts given by God are temporary. Are His. Not ours. He lends it to us for us to appreciate it. We have to remember that, He could possibly take it back at anytime.”

“That is actually sounded quite well to my ears.” James mula melurutkan keegoan.

“By the way sir, a good man will not be bothered by ‘physical beauty’ to love a woman. He sees the ‘beautiful heart’. Indirectly by wearing moderate clothes, this will help us to keep away from “physical-beauty-chasers”, kali ini Jamilah pula yang tertawa kecil dengan istilah hentam keromo yang digunakannya.

James tersenyum.

“Then why does He gives women beauty then? If it’s not to be displayed and adored?” James menyambung diskusi.

“The beauty He gives us is for the blessings of the correct men.  For husbands. Only for him, we could display what we can’t in public. It ensures that the husbands’ rights on their wives are reserved only for them. Tell me sir, if any men other than yourself have an interest in your wife; have an intention of adoring and being mesmerized with her beauty. Don’t you feel uneasy? Or jealous? Or angry at the same time?”

“No I’m not. I feel proud of my wife!”

“It seems like you’re proud with her as if you’re proud of having some attractive stuff that can be displayed to others. The prettier, the more proud you’ll be. Unintentionally, you’ll mistreat her as an ‘ornament’ rather than your wife. You'll love her more because of her looks. Are you sure you won’t be bothered if any other men have an interest in her?”

“Okay okay. Yeah you’re right. The proud feeling will only make me feel more wanting to let people notice her beauty. And yeap if any other men have that intention I will be feeling a bit uneasy.”

“Islam and its teachings are not to be seen and interpreted roughly without any knowledge. You can’t possibly assume what you see without being there to experience to be a Muslim, sir. Or for at least, without being there as a person who understands what Islam is all about. Islam teachings are full with ‘hikmah’ or hidden messages that one can only discover if he wants to discover them. Being a Muslim is not completed only by preaching Islam. Preaching without practice will not give you all the hikmah you should be discovered in Islam. Many Muslims are still not really practising the true teachings of Islam. This group of people are the ones who often portray negative view to non-Muslim like you, sir.  They do not know the hikmah of Islam. Rather than putting efforts to ‘discover’ Islam, they wear ‘question marks’ instead and leave the ‘answer sheets’ blank.”

James terpaku.

“Who is that woman actually?” pertanyaan hatinya mati spontan.

Jamilah sempat berpaling.
